Non-traditional Body Piercings The Best Metals for Ornamentation

The practice of piercing the body can be traced back to the ancient times. However, body piercings had different meanings than they do in todays society. Body piercing refers to the piercing of the body for the purpose of wearing jewelry in the opening created. Piercing is a form of body modification that is performed by many people throughout the world. Today, the body piercing is worn for fashion and other personal purposes. There are also some people that practice body piercing for religious reasons, and many people choose to be pierced for spiritual and ornamental reasons.

Ear piercings are the most popular, and traditional piercings, today, but they are accompanied by many non-traditional body piercings. Some non-traditional body piercings,
include tongue piercings, navel piercings, eyebrow piercing, lip piercing, and nose piercing. A tongue piercing is a common body piercing that is prevalent in teenagers, and people in their twenties. The tongue piercing is defined as a piercing through the tongue; the single piercing through the center of the tongue is the most common form of the tongue piercing, but multiple piercings are possible. Placement of the tongue piercing is more difficult than others, because it is inside the body, it penetrates muscle tissue, and the position of the veins and nerves in the tongue must be taken into account before it can be pierced.

The frenulum must also be taken into account before the tongue is pierced, and the jewelry position in relation to the teeth and gums must also be taken into account to lessen the risk of damage. The tongue is often pierced with straight barbell style jewelry; it is important to choose the correct jewelry size, as the tongue receives a lot of action. Tongue piercings can also be stretched to provide more space for larger jewelry pieces. The barbells are available in different varieties, and flatter beads that match the color of the tongue is worn by some people to conceal the piercing. Navel piercing is a form of body piercing that is more common in women than in men.

In a navel piercing, the skin surrounding the navel is pierced and jewelry is inserted. Healing of a navel piercing can be prolonged by irritation and damage caused by clothing, especially clothing with high waistlines or clothing that is tight. Ring and bar jewelry can be worn in a navel piercing, but the most navels are most often pierced with a barbell. There is a wide variety of decorative jewelry that is available for navel piercings, with some featuring precious metals or gemstones. An eyebrow piercing is also another common type of body piercing; it is a piercing that is done through the eyebrow usually in a vertical position.

The piercing may be performed anywhere along the eyebrow, from directly above the eye to the edge of the eyebrow. The most common pieces of jewelry used in eyebrow piercings are curved barbells, barbells, and captive bead rings. The different types of jewelry used in eyebrow piercing put varying degrees of pressure on the piercing all put varying degrees of pressure on the piercing, which can cause irritation or migration over time. Lip piercings are another type of common body piercing. Lip pirecings penetrate the lips, or the area surrounding the lips.

Lips can be pierced in a variety of ways, and when the lip is pierced labret stud is out in to accommodate any swelling. The stud inserted with the initial piercing may be changed to a smaller ring or stud after the swelling goes away. A nose piercing is the piercing of the skin or cartilage that forms any part of the nose. There are many varieties of nose piercings, including nostril piercing, nasal septum piercing, and bridge piercing. The nose piercing is the most common body piercing after the earlobe piercing.
